March Music Champion

And the winner is….

March Music Madness BracketMarch Music Winner Banner

I had the students fill out a survey as part of the voting process and here’s a few key notes:

10 students added a song to their Spotify playlists
16 students downloaded a song on iTunes or other method
A majority of students watched the songs on YouTube

A few students mentioned showing a family a member a video, which I thought was cool.

The feedback from students was that they really enjoyed the tournament. Some students even wanted more brackets or to included even more songs in the bracket.

We have hung the winner in the “rafters” of the classroom. Click the picture below to download a template to create your own “Championship Pennant”.

One of the activities that you can do during March Music Mania is to have students draw ab album cover for the song. We have a template in our Lesson Product or you can have students use an app, such as Pic Collage.

This is my first year doing March Music Madness, and I’ve already learned so much about my students’ musical preferences. I’ve been considering having students choose one of the songs and memorize some of the lyrics at the end. Have you ever tried something like that? Do you think it would be valuable for acquisition?

We did this! Bailando is going to win against vivir mi vida. We have really enjoyed this all month. I added a mini project where they had to research the artists (groups) of three of their favorite songs on the bracket. Many of our students have also picked up songs for personal enjoyment. I will email you a picture of our bracket on Monday. Thank you for sharing this it has been a highlight of my year to see them so engaged either enjoying the songs or hating them with passion.

I’m going to do the album cover idea next year. Another great idea!
This is the 2nd year I’ve done #ManíaMusical. El Perdón won last year, and La Gozadera won this year. The students absolutely love doing this in March. My former students walk in to see which songs are winning. I’m so thankful I saw Bethanie Drew’s blog post on ‘Aventuras Nuevas’ about this!

This was my first year with March Music Madness and my kids LOVED it. It was a very close final as Hasta el Amanecer went up against La Gozadera (Nicky Jam won). I have heard from numerous parents that all their child listens to now is music in Spanish, which makes my heart oh so happy! 🙂

Why I love music so much: it’s so catchy that it extends to the students’ outside lives! So many students will listen to the music on youtube or download songs on their devices. Very neat.
